Frank Lampard’s Coventry City secures Championship title

Coventry City clinched the Championship title following a dominant 5-1 victory over Portsmouth at home on Tuesday.

Frank Lampard’s team, who secured their promotion to the Premier League on Friday, will ascend as champions of the second tier of English football.

United States forward Haji Wright, the club’s leading scorer this season, opened the scoring on Tuesday with his 17th league goal of the year in the 12th minute.

Ephron Mason-Clark contributed two goals in the second half, sandwiching an own goal by Portsmouth’s Regan Poole, ensuring the three points and the title before Kaine Kesler Hayden added a fifth in stoppage time.

Adrian Segecic netted a consolation goal for Portsmouth, who sit in 19th place.

This victory elevates Coventry to 89 points for the season, establishing an insurmountable lead with two matches left to play.
