The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided not to take any measures against its member Gianni Infantino regarding a potential violation of political neutrality rules related to FIFA’s association with U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace.

On Saturday, the IOC announced that the issue is resolved and stated that FIFA’s developmental initiatives in Gaza are “completely aligned with the responsibilities of an international sports federation.”

Trump hosted the peace board event on Thursday in Washington, D.C., where Infantino signed a deal on behalf of football’s governing body that may allocate $75 million of its resources to Gaza.

When questioned about Infantino’s actions on Friday, IOC President Kirsty Coventry mentioned that they would investigate a possible infringement of neutrality. The Olympic members’ oath mandates “to always act independently of … Political interests.”

Coventry and Infantino are part of the 107 current invited members of the IOC, which includes sports officials, former Olympic competitors, members of Asian and European royal families, past political figures and diplomats, as well as business and cultural representatives.

The IOC membership will convene Sunday morning in Milan and will introduce two new athlete members elected during the Winter Games. Attendance is optional, and it remains uncertain whether Infantino will return after spending several days in the city for IOC meetings prior to the Feb. 6 opening ceremony.
