Thomas Frank declined to specify whether his “passionate” Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero faced any disciplinary action following his social media comments but acknowledged he would not have expressed the same sentiments.
Romero garnered attention on Monday when, shortly before the transfer window closed, he took to Instagram to disclose that he played while unwell in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City and labeled it “disgraceful” that the squad was left with only 11 fit players.
This statement resonated with numerous frustrated Spurs supporters, particularly in light of the minimal transfer activity since the acquisition of Conor Gallagher on January 14, especially as the club has seen nine players sidelined due to injuries since the beginning of 2026.

In anticipation of Saturday’s match against Manchester United, a composed Frank remarked: “If you want to understand what he meant, you certainly need to ask him. That is the appropriate way to approach that question.”
“Cuti [Romero] is a highly passionate individual and player. He aims to give everything on the pitch and is very driven to win every time.”

When asked if Romero had been fined or faced any disciplinary measures, especially after the Spurs defender expressed his thoughts on social media following a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth on January 7, Frank avoided the inquiry.
He continued: “There are many ways to handle situations. Cuti has been very effective for us this season and in previous seasons.”
