Cristiano Ronaldo has secured a 25% ownership interest in the Spanish second division team UD Almeria.

The financial specifics of the agreement, executed through Ronaldo’s CR7 Sports Investments firm, have not been revealed, but the arrangement is viewed as a long-term strategic investment by Ronaldo.

“I have always aspired to make a contribution to football beyond my playing career,” Ronaldo stated in a press release.

“UD Almería is a Spanish club with a solid foundation and significant growth potential. I look forward to collaborating with the team managing the club to assist in its new growth phase.”

In May 2025, UD Almeria was acquired by a Saudi investment group.

Ronaldo, who celebrated his 41st birthday on February 5, has previously indicated his intention to own a football club after his retirement.

The former Real Madrid player extended his contract with Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr last summer, which now runs through June 2027, and is anticipated to captain Portugal this summer in what will be his record sixth World Cup.

UD Almeria president Mohamed al Khereiji is excited to have the five-time Ballon d’Or recipient involved.

“He is regarded as the best on the field,” Al Khereiji remarked. “He is well-acquainted with the Spanish leagues and recognizes the potential of what we are developing here, both in terms of the team and the youth academy.”

After being relegated to the second division in April 2024, Almeria is on track to achieve promotion to Spain’s top flight this season. They currently sit third in the second tier, just two points behind leaders Racing Santander after 27 matches.
