Coach Mascherano states that Miami requires additional player signings.

Inter Miami’s head coach Javier Mascherano stated that the club will persist in pursuing new signings during the MLS transfer window, which is open until March 26, while expressing contentment with the recent roster enhancements.
“We are not finished with the transfer window since this one is longer than previous ones, and we are consistently seeking to add individuals who can enhance our current squad,” Mascherano remarked.
Inter Miami has already secured multiple signings in preparation for the 2026 MLS season, acquiring Dayne St. Clair, Sergio Reguilón, Facundo Mura, Micael dos Santos, David Ayala, and Germán Berterame.
“I am pleased with the acquisitions we have made. It is never straightforward, particularly in this MLS framework, and especially for our club, as we are champions and have lost key players, which complicates replacements,” Mascherano noted.
“The club has been very quick and astute in its pursuit of various players and in capitalizing on opportunities, such as with Dayne St. Clair, who was a free agent, and Facundo Mura, players who might have cost significantly more in a different context, making it difficult for us to sign them. The club sought opportunities, and I believe that by being so proactive in that search, they were able to identify solutions.”
Mascherano also emphasized Berterame, highlighting the forward’s abilities as essential for the upcoming 2026 season. Inter Miami will participate in the Concacaf Champions Cup and Leagues Cup alongside the MLS regular season.
“In the case of Germán Berterame, it’s an excellent signing,” Mascherano stated. “He is a player with a strong present and considerable future potential. At 27 years old, he fits the profile we were seeking—someone who can make runs into space, play on the wing, or centrally, and who connects well with others. He is precisely the type of forward we were after.”
Although Berterame is currently unable to train with Inter Miami until he obtains his work permit, he will be included in the squad traveling to face Barcelona SC in Ecuador on February 7.
“Germán will be part of the squad. He is not with us at the moment; he cannot train with us, but he is in Miami training independently with a plan we have provided, and he will travel to Ecuador because he can play outside the United States, and we cannot afford to lose time,” Mascherano explained. “We must seize every opportunity, even though it is quite unusual to have a player on the team who cannot train with us. However, we need him to be with his teammates during this day and a half to facilitate his adaptation.”
Inter Miami will wrap up the preseason with a friendly match against Ecuadorian LigaPro Serie A champions Independiente del Valle in Puerto Rico on February 13, before starting the MLS season against LAFC.
