Chelsea winger Pedro Neto has evaded disciplinary action following an incident involving a ball-boy during last week’s Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

UEFA has chosen not to impose sanctions on the Portugal international after initiating disciplinary proceedings for pushing a ball-boy off his seat while attempting to retrieve the ball.

The occurrence took place in the final moments of the round of 16 first leg at Parc des Princes, where Chelsea suffered a 5-2 defeat.

UEFA has announced that its Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) has opted to “warn Chelsea FC player Mr. Pedro Lomba Neto for unsporting conduct.”

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior expressed his approval of UEFA’s ruling at a press conference prior to Tuesday night’s second leg at Stamford Bridge.

“He has expressed remorse for the incident in Paris. There was no malicious intent; he simply wanted to continue the match. I believe UEFA has made the correct choice,” Rosenior stated.

Neto disclosed that he apologized to the ball-boy after the first leg during a post-match interview on TNT Sports.

“That’s not who I am. It was a moment of intensity, and I want to extend my apologies. I gave him my shirt. I truly regret itβ€”I feel the need to apologize to him,” Neto remarked.

“My French isn’t very strong, and Vitinha came over to explain that I am not like this.

“In the end, [the ball-boy] laughed, and I gave him my shirt, apologizing about 35 times. He understood what had transpired and was content with the outcome.”
