Chelsea's Liam Rosenior: Enzo Fernández remarks 'misinterpreted by many' 1

Liam Rosenior has chosen not to comment on the criticism from Enzo Fernández’s agent regarding Chelsea but emphasized that “things aren’t what people might assume” concerning the player’s future.

Fernández was left out of the squad for Saturday’s 7-0 FA Cup quarterfinal victory against League One side Port Vale, although he was present at the match to support his teammates.

The 25-year-old will also be absent for next weekend’s Premier League match against Manchester City after expressing uncertainty about his future on two occasions, first in an interview with ESPN Argentina following the club’s Champions League elimination by Paris Saint-Germain.

Fernández further fueled speculation during the international break by stating, “I’d like to live in Spain, I really like Madrid,” amid ongoing rumors of a potential transfer to Real Madrid.

He is contracted to Stamford Bridge until 2032, and sources have informed ESPN that they value Fernández at over £100 million ($132m).

Rosenior asserted that Fernández had “crossed a line” and imposed what amounts to a two-match suspension on the player.

However, Fernández’s agent, Javier Pastore, described the decision as “completely unfair.”

“We don’t comprehend the punishment since he didn’t mention any club or express a desire to leave Chelsea,” Pastore stated.

When asked about Pastore’s comments, Rosenior replied: “That’s his perspective. I have nothing to say about someone else’s viewpoint. Enzo understands my thoughts on him, and it was fantastic to see him here supporting the players today.

“We’ll proceed and ensure we have a strong finish to the season.

“I mentioned yesterday that the discussions I have with my individual players, including Enzo and anyone else in the squad regarding matters like this, remain private.

“The dressing room is sacred. I made it very clear what I think of him as an individual.

“He’s an exceptional person. However, I want us to concentrate on football now and accomplish our goals for the season.”

Rosenior was pressed to clarify whether Fernández believed the suspension was unjust.

“At the appropriate time, which isn’t now, given what we’ve been through, I’m sure the conversation will take place regarding what has been discussed between Enzo and me,” the Chelsea manager stated.

“Enzo and I are in a very good place. I saw him today and had a productive one-on-one conversation with him, and things aren’t what people might think they are.”

Chelsea secured a comfortable victory with goals from Jorrel Hato and João Pedro, followed by an own goal from Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel that put the Blues 3-0 ahead at halftime.

Tosin Adarabioyo, Andrey Santos, Estêvão, and an Alejandro Garnacho penalty ensured Chelsea advanced to the semifinals.

However, Rosenior disclosed that they faced a new injury setback as Jamie Gittens suffered another injury.

“Unfortunately, Jamie picked up what appears to be a hamstring injury again during training yesterday,” Rosenior stated.

“We need to scan him to confirm.

“It’s truly unfortunate for him; I believe this is the third time it has occurred. We need to support him and ensure he is alright. I can’t provide a timeline on that at this moment.”
