Celta Vigo of LaLiga appeals to Madonna for assistance in locating 1990 jersey

The Spanish team Celta Vigo has reached out to Madonna and its supporters to assist in their 36-year quest to locate the team jersey that the renowned artist wore during her concert at Balaidos stadium in 1990.
Madonna’s performance on July 29, 1990, in Vigo was the first significant international concert held in the city and was among the final stops on the pop star’s Blond Ambition European tour.
The LaLiga club expressed its desire to retrieve the “unique and irreplaceable garment” to include it in its historical archives.
“On that evening, the artist wore a Celta Vigo jersey featuring [former Celta defender Jose Manuel] Espinosa’s number 5 on the back,” stated a club announcement.
“This moment, captured by photographer Víctor de las Heras, became an iconic image in the history of the club and the city. Following the concert, the jersey disappeared, and its location has remained unknown ever since. Celta Vigo has disclosed that it has been privately searching for it for years, but the investigation has since stalled.

“After thirty-six years, the club is appealing to all Celta Vigo fans to assist in finding the jersey, with the aim of adding it to its historical archives. For Celta Vigo, it is a unique and irreplaceable garment that is part of its emotional heritage. Therefore, the club would appreciate any pertinent information regarding the location of the shirt Madonna wore on stage at Balaídos. A link has been provided for any information related to the garment.”
Celta president Marián Mouriño has also penned an open letter requesting Madonna’s assistance while detailing the significance of that jersey to the club.
“Your image in our shirt has become a legend and is part of Celta’s history that extends beyond the pitch,” she wrote.
“Many perceive this as merely a trivial anecdote. However, I prefer to believe that nothing occurs by coincidence. Although it was not the only shirt you wore on stage, that image has gained a different kind of prominence over the years. Because we now understand better what you stood for back then: challenging the status quo and resisting those who attempt to dictate what you can or cannot do.
“At the club I represent, we identify with that approach to life.”
In her letter, Mouriño mentioned that her club will “dedicate a gesture of affection” to Madonna prior to Friday’s home league match against Real Madrid, with the intention of asking the singer: “Do you have it? If you know its whereabouts or wish to assist us, please reach out via private message.”
