Carrick: Manchester United must remain grounded with Champions League qualification in sight 1

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has stated that his team is not allowing themselves to become “overly excited” following their recent performances, which have placed them firmly in the race for Champions League qualification, while also commending the contributions of experienced midfielder Casemiro.

Under Carrick’s leadership, United has dropped points only once, in their most recent match against West Ham on February 10, when a late goal from Benjamin Sesko secured a draw.

A win against Everton on Monday night would enable United to surpass Chelsea and move into fourth position in the Premier League.

When asked if Champions League qualification was now a realistic goal, Carrick responded: “It’s encouraging that everyone is asking that question. It indicates that we’ve positioned ourselves well to begin with.

“We’re not getting overly excited now all of a sudden after a few weeks. We understand our situation; we’re in a favorable position. I would still prefer to be in an even better position, though, but we are in a good spot.

“We are optimistic, and I believe we should be. There are many positive aspects to focus on and anticipate. However, it ultimately depends on us to implement it effectively. It’s feasible; it’s up to us to seize the opportunity.”

This has been a productive period for United under Carrick, who inherited a sixth-place team when he took charge.

One of the standout players during this time has been Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.

The former Real Madrid player is set to depart United at the conclusion of the season, but Carrick has been greatly impressed by the impact the 33-year-old has made.

He remarked: “Cas has been exceptional since I arrived, both on and off the field. Experience is invaluable when utilized correctly.

“As a senior player here, there is a certain responsibility to [set] an example, assist the younger players, support the rest of the squad, and share your experiences positively.

“He has been outstanding since I took over, in numerous ways, and it has been a pleasure collaborating with him. I look forward to continuing our work together for a few more months.”
