Carabao Cup: Manchester City delivers setback to Arsenal – Nico O’Reilly

Nico O’Reilly expressed his hope that Manchester City has delivered Arsenal “a blow” ahead of the Premier League’s final stretch following their Carabao Cup victory at Wembley.
City triumphed over Mikel Arteta’s team with a score of 2-0 on Sunday, marking Pep Guardiola’s fifth time lifting the trophy in his career.
The two clubs are currently nine points apart at the top of the Premier League standings and are set to face each other again at the Etihad Stadium on April 19.
Guardiola remarked afterward that he was uncertain if the Carabao Cup outcome would influence the title race.

However, O’Reilly, who scored both goals against Arsenal, believes this victory will heighten the pressure on the league leaders as they aim for their first title in over two decades.
“100 percent, it is a blow for them and we need to build on it and gain some momentum from this win now,” O’Reilly stated.
“Once the international break concludes, we need to push forward and compete vigorously.
“We have a game in hand in the Premier League, and we will host them at our venue. We are still competing in the FA Cup. Liverpool presents a challenging matchup, and we are aware of that, so we must do everything possible to keep progressing.”
City did not manage a shot on target during the first half against Arsenal.
However, they were significantly more dominant after the interval, and O’Reilly later disclosed that Guardiola’s adjustments at halftime contributed to City’s advantage.
“I believe we took control as soon as we emerged for the second half,” he remarked.
“We restricted them to their half, a few tactical and positional tweaks from the manager, and it worked effectively.”
Two goals in the closing moments capped off a successful weekend for O’Reilly, who was named to the England squad on Friday and celebrated his 21st birthday on Saturday.
“Perfect weekend, I couldn’t have asked for much more,” he commented.
“Now we can celebrate a bit and prepare for the international break.”
