Bruno Fernandes anticipates that the Manchester United supporters’ craving for “fresh meat” will be fulfilled this summer, but he emphasized the necessity of securing a cornerstone like Harry Maguire during this transitional phase.

A year that commenced with Ruben Amorim’s contentious departure has been revitalized by Michael Carrick, who has motivated the Red Devils to ascend to third place, bringing them close to a Champions League return.

United must determine whether to extend the head coach’s contract beyond his temporary agreement as the club enters what long-serving defender Maguire referred to as a “big summer,” in which they must “recruit really well.”

The 33-year-old recently signed a new one-year contract with the option for an additional season, which captain Fernandes fully endorsed as the club aims to prepare for a Premier League title challenge.

“I believe Harry has been here for a long time,” Fernandes stated during an interview with the Men In Blazers Media Network. “I often express this in a way that is easy to grasp: people desire fresh meat.

“When you have the same meat for an extended period, you begin to crave something new, and football operates similarly.

“You retain the same players, and people seek to replace them, but when those changes do not yield results, there is a desire to revert to the previous players. It is always like that.

“People seek fresh meat; they want new names, they desire excitement, and they want to see different individuals in the shirt, which is natural, and I believe H has managed that very well.

Harry Maguire urges Man United management to ensure summer recruitment is effective

“He has been crucial in many instances for us, and this acknowledgment from the club is well-deserved because he is also vital for the team and the dressing room.

“Losing someone with his experience and leadership during a season of change will be significant; it is essential to retain some pillars to demonstrate what we need to alter to achieve greater success.”
