Berbatov calls for patience regarding Carrick's future at Manchester United 1

Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov has encouraged the club to exercise patience with Michael Carrick, despite the interim manager’s impressive start as the Red Devils’ head coach.

Berbatov, who secured five titles alongside Carrick at United from 2008 to 2012, cautioned against rushing into a permanent appointment, drawing comparisons to the club’s earlier experience with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“I am somewhat biased, of course, because I played with him [Carrick] and I hope he gets the position, but let’s wait until the season concludes and if they continue on this path, then certainly, why not?” Berbatov stated to ESPN FC.

“We have witnessed what transpired with Ole Gunnar Solskjær; I believe it was a similar situation, so let’s refrain from making hasty conclusions. Let’s simply enjoy each game as United progresses, and at the season’s end, we will see what unfolds.”

Since Carrick took charge, United has achieved four consecutive victories in the Premier League against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, and Tottenham, propelling the club into the top four and securing Champions League spots.

“He [Carrick] is in this role to demonstrate that he is capable of achieving these results. So far in the matches we have observed, everything is aligning for both the team and him. The remainder of the season will serve as a test, and then we will determine if Michael can secure the position permanently.”

The former Bulgaria international credited the team’s recent improvement to Carrick’s exceptional communication abilities.

“I believe he knows how to communicate in a manner that makes the players at United feel valued, to trust him, and subsequently to implement his ideas on the pitch,” Berbatov added.

“Clearly, the manager is different and the system has changed, but the most crucial elements, which are the players, remain the same. We can all observe how they are performing now; they play with flair, belief, confidence, and the necessary arrogance… you know, like a cohesive unit, and it is a pleasure to watch at this moment.”

United prepares for Tuesday’s Premier League match against West Ham United, aiming to achieve five consecutive wins for the first time since 2024.
