Barcelona is contemplating an offensive overhaul this summer, which may involve entertaining offers for Ferran Torres and the potential acquisition of up to two new forwards, according to multiple sources reported by ESPN.

Torres, aged 26, is under contract until 2027, and the club would prefer to transfer him rather than Robert Lewandowski, as this summer presents the last opportunity to secure a fee for the Spain international to generate funds for new signings.

Lewandowski’s contract expires this summer, but Barça president Joan Laporta recently expressed a wish to extend his contract, as disclosed by ESPN in February.

In the meantime, sporting director Deco is actively pursuing a new starting No.9, with Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez among the candidates, while also investigating possible avenues to extend Marcus Rashford’s tenure at the club.

Barça has the option to make the England international’s loan from Manchester United permanent for approximately €30 million ($34.7m), but they are hoping to either negotiate a lower fee or extend the loan for another season.

The Spanish champions recognize that none of the three scenarios—renewing Lewandowski, acquiring Álvarez, or retaining Rashford—will be straightforward, and they are also exploring alternative options to bolster their midfield and wide positions.

At 37, Lewandowski has received offers from various clubs worldwide and has reiterated this week that he will wait until the season concludes before making a final decision regarding his future.

One potential option for the Polish striker is a transfer to MLS, with a source informing ESPN in January that Chicago Fire has been in discussions with his representatives “for several months.”

Regarding Álvarez, Atlético is unlikely to let the Argentine depart easily, with Premier League club Arsenal also interested in acquiring him.

Lastly, United has made it clear to ESPN that the only way Barça can retain Rashford is by paying the full €30m as agreed last year when he joined Spotify Camp Nou on loan.

Consequently, Barça is exploring ways to facilitate these transactions or others, with a source acknowledging that the club would be receptive to offers for Torres to generate funds.

Torres is contracted until 2027, and the Catalan club must either transfer him this summer or renew his contract to prevent losing him for free next year.

Deco has secured the majority of the first-team squad in recent months—with Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Ronald Araújo, Pedri, and Fermín López among those who have signed new contracts—but sources have informed ESPN that there have yet to be any discussions regarding Torres’ future.

Barça acquired Torres from City in 2022 for over €50m, and he has contributed to winning two LaLiga titles, a Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups.

He began the current season strongly, stepping into Lewandowski’s role in the team during the autumn, but his performances have declined at a crucial point in the campaign.

Torres has netted 16 goals in 40 matches this season, but he has only scored three in 2026 and has not found the net since the 3-1 victory against Elche on January 31.

Sources from coach Hansi Flick’s staff have told ESPN that the Spain international’s dedication to the team is “not in question” and that he is simply experiencing a “poor run,” but behind the scenes, the club is contemplating a transfer to facilitate other operations.

One source indicated that Barça’s ideal situation would involve having Álvarez as the starting striker next season, with Lewandowski as his backup, which would limit the playing time available to Torres.

There would also be restricted options for wide play, with Barça aiming to either retain Rashford or acquire another versatile winger to complement Yamal and Raphinha.
