Barcelona has until June 15 to trigger a €30 million ($34.8m) clause that would enable them to secure Marcus Rashford’s loan from Manchester United on a permanent basis, a source informed ESPN.

Rashford’s future is a topic of internal discussion at Barça, as the club’s management continues to evaluate whether to allocate a substantial portion of this summer’s transfer budget towards the England international.

Nevertheless, they have time to reach a conclusion, with a source confirming that the option to sign Rashford is still valid despite reports from Spain this week suggesting it had lapsed.

Additionally, the source mentioned that Barça has the option to make the payment in three installments of €10m ($11.6m), with the first due this year and the subsequent two in 2027 and 2028.

Rashford’s representatives have been in communication with Barça during the international break to ascertain the club’s current stance on extending the forward’s loan.

Barça president Joan Laporta has indicated a wish to retain Rashford, who joined at the request of coach Hansi Flick last summer, but hinted at a preference to renegotiate a new fee or extend the loan arrangement.

However, sources at United maintain that the Premier League club has no plans to negotiate a new agreement with Barça, asserting that Rashford will return to Old Trafford if the LaLiga leaders do not activate the clause.

There is confidence at United that they could transfer him elsewhere if needed, potentially for an even higher fee.

Barça’s decision will be significantly impacted by developments over the next month, as Rashford is expected to receive increased playing time following Raphinha’s five-week injury absence.

Flick’s team will resume LaLiga action on Saturday against Atlético Madrid and will then face the same team over two legs in the Champions League quarterfinals, with a league match against local rivals Espanyol occurring in between those fixtures.

Rashford has only played 30 minutes in Barça’s last four matches, but he participated for England against Japan and Uruguay this week and is the prime candidate to take Raphinha’s position on the left wing.

Earlier in the season, he filled in for the Brazil international when Raphinha was out for an extended period, delivering a series of commendable performances for the Blaugrana.

Overall, he has made 39 appearances for Barça, netting 10 goals and providing 13 assists.
