Ashley Cole appointed as head coach of Cesena in Italy's Serie B 1

Ashley Cole, the former England and Chelsea defender, has been named head coach of Serie B club Cesena.

Cole, who is often considered one of the finest left-backs of his era, is stepping into his first senior managerial position after beginning his coaching journey in 2019.

He initiated his coaching career within Chelsea’s academy following his retirement from playing and has also worked with Everton, Birmingham City, and the England U21 team.

Cesena currently sits in eighth place, which is within the playoff spots, in Italy’s second division. The club announced in a statement that Cole has signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2026, with an option for an extension.

“The entire Cesena FC family is excited to welcome manager Ashley Cole to lead the Bianconeri first team and extends a warm welcome to him and his staff in Cesena, wishing them all the best of luck in this new endeavor,” the club stated.

During his playing career, he secured three Premier League titles with Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as a Champions League title, and earned 107 caps for England.

The 44-year-old returns to Italy after making several appearances for Roma as a player from 2014 to 2016.
