Argentina forward Joaquín Panichelli has sustained a torn right ACL, an injury that excludes him from the World Cup and will keep him out for the rest of the season with his club, Strasbourg.

“Examinations performed on forward Joaquín Panichelli confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee… Stay strong, Joaco! We are with you,” said a medical report issued on Friday via the Argentina national team’s X account.

Panichelli, who is currently at the top of the Ligue 1 scoring chart with 16 goals, will need surgery and is anticipated to be out of action for six to eight months.

The injury took place during a training session for the Argentine national team on Thursday, which was held in preparation for a friendly match against Mauritania in Buenos Aires. Panichelli, who was competing for a position on the final World Cup roster, exited the field in tears.

Panichelli, who made his Argentina debut in November 2025 during a 2-0 friendly win over Angola, had previously experienced the same injury to his right leg in 2024.
