Aquilani Faces Sassuolo Sack Threat Amid Poor Results

Multiple reports indicate that Sassuolo are prepared to dismiss Alberto Aquilani following a run of five consecutive defeats. ‘I have to be judged on results and I have to question myself,’ stated the manager.
Aquilani took charge during the summer to succeed Fabio Grosso, having previously held talks with Torino before finalizing his agreement with the Neroverdi.

There were some encouraging outcomes, most prominently the 3-2 win against Juventus, yet his overall record this season stands at four victories, two draws, and seven defeats across Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
The 3-0 loss to Roma marked the fifth consecutive defeat, yielding just one point from the last seven matches, which followed a 1-1 result against Milan.
Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia both report this evening that Sassuolo are seriously considering a managerial change during the international break, with Roberto D’Aversa emerging as the favorite to assume the role.
Aquilani acknowledges that Sassuolo are experiencing difficulties.

“It was as if a light went off,” Aquilani told Sky Sport Italia about tonight’s performance against Roma.
“I didn’t expect to see so little from my team. We have no courage on the ball, it becomes impossible this way. After we went 1-0 down, the game just stopped. I expect more in so many ways, but I cannot hide, I am the one responsible.”
This marks only Aquilani’s inaugural season as a Serie A head coach, following successful spells in Serie B with Pisa and Catanzaro.
“We talk about mental fragility, but it’s hard to lift the players after five defeats in a row. This is football, we need to face reality.”

Aquilani was questioned regarding whether he still believes the Sassuolo board maintains complete confidence in him.
“I haven’t spoken to them yet. I always felt their faith, but obviously I have to be judged on results, and I have to question myself. Many things have to change.”
