Ruben Amorim delivered a stern warning to his Milan squad following their surprising 2-0 Europa League loss to Ferencvaros. ‘We have to improve, otherwise it’s over.’

The manager appeared visibly shocked by his team’s display at San Siro, merely days after a distinct tactical approach secured a 3-1 victory over Inter in the Derby della Madonnina.

They registered no shots on target during the opening half and succumbed to a Lenny Joseph double, while conceding several other significant scoring chances to the Hungarian club.

Following his emphatic comments in a post-match interview with Sky Sport Italia, Amorim escalated his criticism during the press conference, cautioning that his entire tenure might be terminated prematurely.

“I’m simply saying what I see, because you’re not stupid, and I don’t want to fool anyone,” he said.

“I have every reason to defend the team, so when I speak like this, I take responsibility first and foremost, because the team is my responsibility.

“But we cannot afford to do something like this, especially in the first half, in front of our fans, at our home. We can’t do it.

“We have to improve, otherwise it’s over.”

Amorim had previously noted that Milan were clearly fatigued from playing every three days, having lost three of their first four Europa League matches and facing the threat of an early tournament exit. “not ready to be competitive”

“This is my feeling, but I’m not the one saying it. The facts prove it. And today’s game was proof of it, we’re not mentally ready. The technical aspect has nothing to do with it. The rotation has nothing to do with it. You can’t tell me that the starting lineup wasn’t up to the task of winning the game.

“We gave ourselves all the chances we had, especially at the start. I remember certain reactions when we lost the ball: they weren’t at all the same as the ones we saw three days ago, and we’d had four days to rest.”
