AFCON final outcome reversed! Reactions on social media to Senegal's 'defeat' 1

Football enthusiasts globally were taken aback on Tuesday when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) declared Morocco as the official champions of the Africa Cup of Nations, replacing Senegal.

According to CAF’s announcement, its appeal board determined that Senegal was “declared to have forfeited the Final,” resulting in their 1-0 victory in extra time being converted to a 3-0 default win for the host nation, Morocco.

During the final held on January 18 in Rabat, Senegal’s players, under the guidance of coach Pape Thiaw, protested by leaving the pitch for 15 minutes during stoppage time, as fans attempted to breach the field when Morocco was awarded a decisive penalty.

Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz failed to convert the ensuing penalty, mishitting his Panenka attempt, allowing Senegal to secure the match and the tournament title in extra time.

However, those 15 minutes, during which a majority of the team departed the field, have now adversely affected the Teranga Lions, leading to various reactions from football fans regarding the decision.

Fans expressed confusion over the duration it took to reach this ruling, noting that CAF’s regulations are explicit on the issue. However, some highlighted that not all players left the field, including Mane, creating a complex situation.
