Oleksandr Usyk has reestablished his promotional company with intentions to organize a boxing tournament in Kyiv, Ukraine this spring.

The unified heavyweight champion’s “Usyk17” organization had been operational since 2020 but had to cease activities following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Now, Usyk and his team are advancing their plans with an emphasis on nurturing the next generation of Ukrainian boxers.

“Usyk17 is back. This spring in Kyiv, we aim to host a significant tournament, which we will announce at a later time,” Usyk stated. “Exclusively, these competitors will be young, promising boxers from Ukraine, and we will assist these individuals in achieving their aspirations. We will do everything within our power to foster the emergence of new champions in our nation.

“Champions are developed long before they earn titles. The journey is more important than immediate success. My remarkable team and I have accomplished substantial work and acquired invaluable experience on the path to my championship belts.

“And we are prepared to share that knowledge with the new generation of athletes.”

Usyk has been a prominent advocate for his country since the invasion.

His Usyk Foundation supports and provides financial assistance to the military, while he and fellow boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko also joined a territorial defense battalion after the invasion.

Now, the three-time undisputed champion aims to assist in the development of future boxing talents.

“The revitalized promotion seeks to transform the conventional boxing model by concentrating not only on organizing bouts but also on athletes as individuals and long-term brands,” a statement from Usyk’s team indicated.

“Designed as a digital-first platform, Usyk17 Promotions will prioritize storytelling, media visibility, and strategic career advancement as its primary competitive strengths.

“The promotion will initially concentrate on the growth of Ukrainian fighters, with the goal of preparing them to uphold Usyk’s legacy and emerge as the next Ukrainian stars in global boxing.

“The first major signings, along with announcements regarding the promotion’s initial events, are anticipated to be disclosed later in February.”
