WBC middleweight titleholder Carlos Adames has pulled out of his title defense scheduled for this Saturday against Austin “Ammo” Williams due to an illness.

The Ring reported that Adames (24-1-1, 18 KOs) was unable to make weight and weigh in on Friday morning because of the illness, leading to his removal from the fight. This matchup was set to be part of the main card of “The Ring 6” event at Madison Square Garden, which is headlined by WBO 140-pound champion Teofimo Lopez defending his title against three-division champion Shakur Stevenson.

Adames, 31, has not competed since last February when he faced Hamzah Sheeraz in a contentious split draw.

As of the latest update, there are efforts to keep Williams (19-1, 13 KOs) on the card, but a substitute opponent has not yet been announced.
