U.S. Advances To Women’s Worlds Semifinals, Tops Germany, 3-0 1 | ASL

ČESKÉ BUDĚJOVICE, Behind a 12-save shutout from Aerin Frankel (Chappaqua, N.Y./Boston Fleet), the U.S. Women’s National Team topped Germany, 3-0, advancing to the semifinals of the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship at Budvar Arena.

“Today was an important game, we battled and continued to fight,” said John Wroblewski (Nennah, Wis.), head coach of the 2025 U.S. Women’s National Team. “Germany is a tough, physical team and we stuck to our game and got the win.”

opened the game with the first nine shots on goal, but it was the sixth of the game that found the back of the net. Abbey Murphy (Evergreen Park, Ill./University of Minnesota) hit Kelly Pannek (Plymouth, Minn./Minnesota Frost) with a cross-ice pass that Pannek one-timed past Sandra Abstreiter to put the U.S. up 1-0 with 14:24 left in the first.

Lacey Eden (Annapolis, Md./University of Wisconsin) doubled the U.S. lead with 9:10 left in the opening frame. Taylor Heise (Lake City, Minn./Minnesota Frost) carried the puck into the zone, circling before passing to an open Haley Winn (Rochester, N.Y./Clarkson University) at the point. Winn’s shot was blocked before Eden picked the puck, lacing it to the top corner.

With 1:07 remaining in the middle frame, Alex Carpenter (North Reading, Mass./ Sirens) bounced a puck off a sliding German defender and through Abstreiter’s five hole, putting the U.S. up 3-0. Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho/Boston Fleet) forced the turnover at the blue line that lead to the goal.

The third was a back-and-forth pace but neither the U.S. or Germany scored.

Next up, the U.S. will face the lowest seed remaining through the conclusion of all quarterfinal games in the semifinal round on Saturday (April 19). Game time will be determined once all quarterfinal games have been completed. Team USA’s semifinal game will be broadcast live on NHL Network.

NOTES: Kelly Pannek was named U.S. Player of the Game … The U.S. outshot Germany, 51-12 … The U.S. was 0-4 on the power play, while Germany did not have a power-play opportunity.
