First 18 Players Named to 2025 U.S. Men’s National Team 5 | ASL

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey announced today the first 18 players of the 2025 U.S. Men’s National Team that will compete in the IIHF Men’s World Championship, May 9-25, in Herning, Denmark, and Stockholm, Sweden. The group includes eight first-round NHL Draft picks, more than 4,500 games of NHL experience, and 16 players who have previously competed in an IIHF world championship.

"We really like our team," said Jeff Kealty (Framingham, Mass.), general manager of the 2025 U.S. Men's National Team and assistant general manager of the NHL's Nashville Predators. "We have a group with significant international experience and I know our players are excited about representing our country on the world stage and competing for a gold medal."

Team USA will train in Düsseldorf, Germany, starting May 2 and play a pre-tournament game there against Germany on May 4. The U.S. will open play in the IIHF Men’s World Championship against Denmark on May 9 in Herning at 8:20 p.m. local time/2:20 p.m. ET. All U.S. games in the tournament will air live on NHL Network.

The U.S. has finished in the top four of the 16-team IIHF Men’s World Championship in six of the last 10 tournaments with three bronze medals to its credit (2015, 2018, 2021).

ROSTER OVERVIEW – The First 18

• Three goaltenders, six defensemen, nine forwards

• Averages: Height: 6-2 • Weight: 200 • Age: 25

• Youngest Player: Hampton Slukynsky, 19

• Oldest Player: Brady Skjei, 31

• Roster includes four top-10 picks in the NHL Draft, including Matty Beniers (2021; 2nd overall/Seattle Kraken), Logan Cooley (2022; 3rd overall/Arizona Coyotes), Cutter Gauthier (2022; 5th overall/Anaheim Ducks), and Clayton Keller (2016; 7th overall/Arizona Coyotes).

• Eleven players have previously been part of Team USA for an IIHF Men’s World Championship, including Matty Beniers (2021), Conor Garland (2021, 2023), Cutter Gauthier (2023), Clayton Keller (2017, 2019), Michael Kesselring (2024), Andrew Peeke (2022), Drew O'Connor (2023), Brady Skjei (2016, 2019), Jeremy Swayman (2022), Tage Thompson (2018, 2021), Alex Vlasic (2024).

• All but Joey Daccord and Mason Lohrei have competed in at least one IIHF world championship. The players have won 26 collective medals in IIHF world championship play, including 11 gold. Tage Thompson and Cutter Gauthier lead the the way with four medals each.

• The players come from 13 different states, including Massachusetts (3), Minnesota (3), Michigan (2), Alaska (1), Arizona (1), Connecticut (1), (1), Illinois (1), Missouri (1), New Hampshire (1), New Jersey (1), Pennsylvania (1), Wisconsin (1).

• A total of 17 players have competed in the United States Hockey League, the only Tier I junior hockey league in the U.S.

• A total of 12 different U.S. colleges/universities are represented on the roster, with the University of Minnesota leading the way with three players, followed by two players from both Boston University and the University of Michigan. Arizona State University, Boston College, University of Connecticut, Dartmouth College, University of Maine, Northeastern University, University of Notre Dame, Ohio State University and Western Michigan University each have one representative
