Chinese GP: Lewis Hamilton beats Max Verstappen to pole for sprint race
Lewis Hamilton secured pole position for his first sprint race with Ferrari after he beat Max Verstappen to the fastest time in Friday’s sprint qualifying session at the Chinese Grand Prix.
In just his second race with the Italian team, Hamilton will start from first place for Saturday’s 19-lap sprint after Australian Grand Prix winner Lando Norris, who appeared to be on a faster lap, made a mistake on his final qualifying lap and ended up sixth.
Hamilton beat Verstappen to the fastest time by 0.018 seconds and will start alongside his old rival the front row of the grid, with Oscar Piastri securing third place for McLaren.
The result represents a big turnaround for Hamilton following his tenth place finish on his Ferrari debut at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix
