COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –  Ryan Warsofsky (North Marshfield, Mass.), head coach of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks, has been named head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team for the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship, it was announced today by USA Hockey. The event is set for May 9-25 in Herning, Denmark, and Stockholm, Sweden.

“Ryan is an exceptional young coach,” said Jeff Kealty, general manager of the U.S. Men’s National Team and also assistant general manager of the NHL’s Nashville Predators. “He connects well with players and is a great fit to lead our team in the world championship as we strive to bring home the gold medal.”

Warsofsky served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team at the 2023 IIHF Men’s World Championship, where won its first eight games in the event for the first time ever. 

In his first season as the head coach of the Sharks and the current youngest bench boss in the NHL, Warsofsky served as an assistant coach for two seasons with San Jose before ascending to his current role. 

Prior to joining the Sharks, Warsofsky was the head coach of the Chicago Wolves of the AHL for two seasons (2020-22), where, in 2022, at age 34, he became the youngest coach since Peter Laviolette in 1999 to guide a team to the Calder Cup. 

He also spent two seasons with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers — one as an assistant (2018-19) and one as head coach (2019-20). In 2019, he helped guide the Checkers to the Calder Cup. 

Warsofsky’s coaching career began in 2012-13 with his alma mater, Division III Curry College, as an assistant after two seasons with the team as a player. He then joined the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays in 2013, serving as an assistant for three seasons before being promoted to head coach and director of hockey operations for his final two campaigns (2016-18). 

ABOUT THE 2025 IIHF MEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The IIHF Men’s World Championship includes two eight-team groups. Team USA is in Group B with Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Norway and with group stage games being played in Herning. Group A, which will play its group stage games in Stockholm, includes Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden. Each city will host two quarterfinal games, with both semifinals, along with the bronze and gold-medal games, taking place in Stockholm.
