GAME DAY | U.S. Faces Hungary In Men’s Worlds Today
HERNING, Denmark – The U.S. Men’s National Team will face Hungary today in its second of seven preliminary round games at the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship. Opening faceoff is set for 12:20 p.m. local time/6:20 a.m. ET at Jyske Bank Boxen. All U.S. games in the world championship can be seen live on NHL Network.
It’s just the fourth meeting ever between the two teams in the world championship and Team USA has won each of the previous three meetings.
The squad last met in the 2023 men’s world championship with Team USA gaining a 7-1 victory. Cutter Gauthier had a goal in the contest and Mikey Eyssimont an assist.

Team USA is coming off a 5-0 win over host Denmark to open the tournament on Friday. Joey Daccord made 26 saves in his Team USA debut to earn the shutout. Matty Beniers scored twice to fuel the U.S. offense and Team USA’s blueline contributed five points, including a goal and an assist from Mason Lohrei.
Hungary played yesterday and dropped a 6-1 decision to Germany in its opening game of the world championship.
Today’s game marks the first of a back-to-back for the U.S. with a contest against Switzerland tomorrow at 4:20 p.m. local/10:20 a.m. ET. The Swiss were in the gold-medal game of last year’s world championship.

Forward Shane Pinto (Franklin Square, N.Y./Ottawa Senators/University of North Dakota) arrived in Herning on Friday afternoon and is expected to be in the lineup today. Defenseman Zach Werenski (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Columbus Blue Jackets/University of Michigan), a finalist for the NHL’s Norris Trophy as the best defenseman in the NHL, is set to arrive tomorrow.
