Final Round Robin Tilt Tonight Against Sweden at TD Garden

BOSTON – After clinching a spot in the 4 Nations Face-Off Championship Game with a win over Canada on Saturday (Feb. 15), the U.S. Men’s National Team faces Sweden tonight at 8 o’clock on TNT. Team USA takes the ice on home soil at TD Garden in Boston in the final round-robin game of the 4 Nations Face-Off, an event that features the best NHL players from the U.S., Canada, Finland and Sweden being staged by the NHL and NHLPA.

GAME STATS

GUENTZEL & WERENSKI FILL THE STATSHEET

U.S. forward Jake Guentzel (Woodbury, Minn./Tampa Bay Lightning) and defenseman Zach Werenski (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Columbus Blue Jackets) lead all players in points through two games at the 4 Nations Face-Off. Guentzel has racked up three goals and an assist, including a two-goal performance in Team USA’s 3-1 victory over Canada, while Werenski leads all players with four assists.

HELLEBUYCK STANDS TALL

Connor Hellebuyck (Commerce, Mich./Winnipeg Jets) has been stellar in net for the U.S. through two games, as he leads all goaltenders in save percentage (.957) and goals against average (1.00). 

SERIES HISTORY – CANADA CUP/WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY

The U.S. and Sweden have faced off six times in previous Canada Cup/World Cup of Hockey events and Team USA holds a 4-2-0 (W-L-T) advantage. The last meeting between the teams came at the 1991 Canada Cup on Aug. 31, 1991, in Pittsburgh at the Civic Center with the U.S. taking a 6-3 victory in round-robin play. 

CLINCHED CHAMPIONSHIP BERTH: WHO WILL JOIN THE U.S.?

The U.S. clinched a berth in Thursday’s (Feb. 20) 4 Nations Face-Off Championship Game with regulation victories over Finland and Canada to open the tournament. Team USA sits atop the standings with six points, while Canada, Sweden and Finland each enter Monday with two points. All three teams remain eligible for a berth in the championship game heading into the final day of round-robin games.
